Open roadstead port handling dry bulk, containers and
tankers. Port facilities are operated by Terminal Puerto Arica (TPA) and
Empresa Nacional de Puertos SA (ENAPU) of Peru. A number of offshore
facilities exist close by.

Compulsory except for Chilean vessels under 1,000 g.t.

Passengers: LOA 487 m.
VHF:
Call ‘‘Arica Radio’’. Listening watch on VHF Channel 16. Vessels
approaching the port must advise Arica Pilot Station of the ETA, 2 hours and
1 hour prior to arrival. Arica Radio has radio telephone service on VHF
Channel 26. Request this service by VHF Channel 16. When manoeuvring
within the port area, the Pilot will advise which channel to use.
Facility VHF Channels
TUGS:
Compulsory. 1_1,400 h.p. and 1_3,400 h.p. Tugs normally join
vessels at the end of the breakwater.
One tug for vessels up to LOA 150 m. (one tug required if vessel is fitted
with a bow thruster).
Two tugs for vessels over LOA 150 m. (one tug required if bow thruster
fitted, no tug if bow and stern thruster fitted).
PORT LIMITS:
Seaward limits are from Lat. 18° 24.9' S,Long. 070°19.4' W to Lat. 18°28.8' S, Long. 070°20.0' W.
RESTRICTIONS: Vessels up to draft 10.5 m. may berth at Terminal
Puerto Arica (TPA) subject to tides and co-ordination with Port Authority.
Tankers berth only during daylight. Other vessels berth throughout 24 hours,
weather permitting, if application presented in advance to Port Captain. Max.
wind speed for Berth No. 7 is 21 knots, for oil terminals 11 knots (berthing),
21 knots (unberthing).

PRATIQUE: In case of fever or suspected diseases on board, Mastermust
send a message to Port Captain advising the situation. Upon arrival, vessels
will be anchored and inspected by Health Department according to
international procedures and will be quarantined if necessary. If arriving from
another Chilean port, pratique is automatic

Location: Berths No. 4 – 5.
Facilities: Two conveyor belts, 1_120 tonnes/hr. (clean grain),
1_250 tonnes/hr. (raw grain), max. airdraft 12.0 m. Additional conveyor
available as back-up. When in use, combined loading rate
400 – 450 tonnes/hr. Belt has airdraft 13.0 m. Also handles general cargo.
CONTAINER FACILITIES: Containers are handled with conventional
gear, the port has a container yard of 115,936 sq.m., served by railroad and
a bridge crane capable of lifting 40 tons. Service for containers includes
10 ton forklift trucks, mobile cranes with 12 tons capacity, 4_55 ton
reachstackers and container trailer chassis. Loading/discharge rate
approx. 20 containers/hr.
PASSENGER FACILITIES: Cruise vessels handled, max. LOA 487 m.
TANKER FACILITIES:

Facilities: Offshore berth orientated 230/050_(T). Comprises three mooring
buoys located in the following positions:
a) North – Lat. 18_ 30' 40.10" S, Long. 070_ 19' 12.00" W
b) South – Lat. 18_ 30' 45.76" S, Long. 070_ 19' 07.90" W
c) Centre – Lat. 18_ 30' 42.30" S, Long. 070_ 19' 09.31" W
Vessels can berth only during daylight, unberthing is performed throughout
24 hours. Maximum wind speed for berthing/unberthing is 11 knots. Minimum
of six mooring lines to be used. Such lines must not be a mixture of wire
and rope. Handles gasoline 93, diesel and No. 6 fuel
Terminal Maritimo Sica-Sica: Operator: YPFB Transporte SA.

c) Centre – Lat. 18_ 27' 38.69" S, Long. 070_ 19' 16.53" W
Vessels can berth only during daylight, unberthing is performed throughout
24 hours. Maximum wind speed for berthing/unberthing is 11 knots. Minimum
of six mooring lines to be used. Such lines must not be a mixture of wire
and rope. Handles refined products via 10 in. hose, loading rate
3,500 bbls./hr. No deballasting facilities.
CRANES: Berths No. 3 – 6: 2_100 tonne twin-lift Gottwald cranes.
STEVEDORES: Stevedores are nominated through the Agent the day
before ship arrives, according to ETA. Also nomination can be made during
the day. Working in the port is in three shifts: 0800 – 1530, 1530 – 2300,
2300 – 0630. The break from 0630 – 0800 can be worked as overtime.
Hatches: Opening/closing performed by stevedores.
MEDICAL: Medical assistance can be obtained at any time without notice.

mechanical and electrical.

TAKE A VIEW
DELAYS: No delays under normal conditions. Port congestion causes
ships to wait at anchorage for 24 hours or more, depending on factors such
as heavy swell, or lack of room to bring vessels alongside when five ships
are berthed.
CONSULS: Austria, Bolivia, Denmark, Ecuador, Germany, Hungary, Peru,
Spain and Uruguay.
SHORE LEAVE: Permitted. A courtesy bus is provided by TPA for
vessels at Berths No. 1 – 5. Tel: +56 (58) 202051.
PILOTS
Compulsory except for Chilean vessels under 1,000 g.t.
Ships approaching port should fly ‘‘G’’ flag to request Pilot. Pilot boat is a
small craft, painted red or white, with ‘‘H’’ flag on the mast.
